I typically start by talking to the potential client on the phone or via email to discuss the location, services needed, price, etc.  If it looks like a good fit for both of us, we set up a consultation appointment.  The appointment gives me the opportunity to answer questions, see where all of the supplies are located, get the paperwork completed and pick up the key.
